Unraveling Wellness

Virginia came to the United States from her home country 16 years ago filled with hope and dreams for a better future. Navigating the complexities of the American healthcare system was difficult for her. The language barrier and cultural differences made it challenging for her to access the care she needed.

After years of struggling to find a healthcare provider who could effectively communicate with her, Virginia discovered LCH Health and Community Services, a local health center that catered to individuals from diverse backgrounds. From the moment she walked through the doors, Virginia felt a sense of belonging. The staff at the health center welcomed her warmly and took the time to explain things to her in a way that she could understand.

Virginia says, “With LCH, I learned something new that I did not know. When you learn something new you can help someone else!”

Virginia met with a compassionate medical provider who listened to her concerns and answered her questions patiently. For the first time, she felt empowered to take control of her health. LCH’s Women’s Health Center provided Virginia with explanations of her concerns in her native language, helping her to understand her conditions and treatment options better.

“Jhosie [CRNP] brought up topics that I had asked other providers before [coming to LCH]. I asked them, but their answers confused me and I didn’t feel comfortable asking more questions. She [Jhosie, CRNP] deeply explains things”, said Virginia.

With the support of LCH, Virginia learned how to manage her health needs and felt comfortable asking medical questions. Her provider Jhosie took the time to educate her and make her feel empowered to navigate any concerns she had. Virginia no longer felt alone in her journey towards better health.

“I’ve learned that It’s necessary to stay informed and to not be afraid to ask questions. I feel more at ease now because she [Jhosie, CRNP] is taking care of me. I feel more comfortable calling because I know she will see me when she has an available appointment. I love her work”, said Virginia.

Today, Virginia continues to visit the LCH’s Women’s Health Center regularly for check-ups and preventive care. With the knowledge and support she has received; Virginia feels confident in her ability to make informed decisions about her health. She is grateful for the compassionate care she has received and the sense of belonging she has found at LCH.
