Nourishing Change
Aurora has always struggled with her weight; it has been her greatest challenge and has caused her significant distress. For years, she searched for a way to manage her health—hoping for a book, or something to help guide her toward better choices.
Aurora states, “Sometimes it feels overwhelming, and I ask my husband, ‘Well, what am I supposed to eat?’ I always told him that I wished there was a place that guided you or if there was a book available with food options.”
This ongoing battle with her weight left her feeling lost and frustrated, but when she learned about the newest Nutrition Program at LCH, in collaboration with the University of Delaware, everything changed.
“With these classes, we think about our choices more. We learned how to read nutrition labels which helped because we didn’t know how to do those things. We used to just go to the store and buy what we like without noticing what we were consuming,” states Aurora.
Joining the program opened the doors to a new way of living not just for her, but also for her husband. The program has provided them with the tools and knowledge they’ve both been searching for, offering practical ways to make healthier choices. For the first time, she feels empowered to take control.
“This class has been great for me. I used to be bigger. I weighed close to 290 pounds, and I’ve lost weight. I stopped eating as many tortillas and that was hard at first., But with this class, I’ve learned to think more about my choices,” she states.
Aurora expressed her gratitude for opportunities like this nutrition class at LCH. She emphasized how valuable the program has been, not just as a learning experience but as a turning point in her journey. With each class, Aurora feels more confident and hopeful about her future health, and she knows that this is just the beginning of her transformation.
