Expanding equitable healthcare access into West Chester and Southern Chester County
LCH Partners with Westside Community Center for Health Screenings
Kennett Square, Pennsylvania – December 11, 2023 – Primary care providers, nurses, and medical assistants from LCH Health and Community Services visited Westside Community Center on Wednesday, November 29th to host a community health screening event. This first health screening event at Westside Community Center marks LCH’s expansion into serving West Chester with accessible healthcare.
LCH serves Chester County at three health centers located in Kennett Square, West Grove, and Oxford. LCH provides primary care, women’s health services, pediatric care, dental services, behavioral health, social assistance, and telehealth for adults and children.
Over the summer and fall, LCH has visited Lighthouse Youth Center, South Mill Champs, Cochranville, Pathstone, South Mill Champs Oxford, and Avon Grove School District to deliver community health screenings. Screenings offer community members an opportunity to review their health status with LCH clinical staff. Bilingual team members are present at every screening event to ensure a comfortable experience for every individual. These health screenings are part of an initiative to bring the gift of health to Chester County.
“We recognize that people face many different barriers, such as language differences and financial concerns, which prevent them from seeking healthcare,” said Kate Wickersham, Director of Development at LCH. “We find that the best way to overcome those barriers is to visit people right where they are. Whether that is at work, at school, or at some other place where they feel comfortable, we are going to come in and be a welcoming face of healthcare.”
Wednesday’s screening event provided about 20 individuals from the community with the opportunity to see LCH providers. Adults and children received a general physical health exam and had opportunities to ask questions and learn more about the healthcare services available through LCH. If necessary, LCH providers referred individuals for follow up appointments at one of their health centers.
“Promoting healthcare is one way that we can encourage our neighbors to take care of themselves so that they can serve their community,” said Ryan Enns, Executive Director of Westside Community Center. “We welcome LCH and their commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of underserved individuals in West Chester. With access to affordable healthcare, our youth and their families can give their best to their communities.”
LCH is actively seeking healthcare access partners throughout West Chester and southern Chester County. Employers, school administrators, and community center leaders are encouraged to contact LCH to schedule a health screening event at their location.
