Escalera

Empowering youth in southern Chester County through career building and continuing education.

Building and Empowering Youth

The Escalera program seeks to provide opportunities for youth to develop foundation skills and STEM awareness. In partnership with UnidosUS, Escalera is a free two-year program designed for juniors during the academic year. The same cohort of students continue with the program through their senior year in high school.

Program Components

  1. Program Sessions: weekly sessions of 45-60-minute-lessons are organized across thematic nodules, scaffold students’ knowledge based on grade levels, and lend themselves to adaptation to meet students’ needs.
  2. Experimental Learning Activities: all students are provided opportunities to partake in experiential learning activities outside of the weekly program session meetings including, but not limited to, activities that may include field trips of/or area colleges, career shadowing days, summits, panels, and conferences, etc.
  3. College and Career Advising (CCR): each student is provided with on-on-one college and career readiness counseling, small group support, tutoring and/or referrals to partners to address issues or needs students may be facing.

The cultural competencies also include development and exploration in leadership, career, and education.

LCH is currently running the program in partnership with Avon Grove High School.
