This past Sunday, September 20, our friends, neighbors, and community partners gathered at Sovana Bistro in Kennett Square for an afternoon focused on connection and philanthropy. It was a beautiful day filled with exquisite food, a live synchronized violin duet, our annual wine pull, and an exclusive silent auction featuring an autographed photo from Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott. Guests also enjoyed a VIP wine tasting led by wine expert connoisseurs and distributor Hudson Austin.

But beyond the lively atmosphere, the afternoon was really about a shared promise: ensuring everyone in our community has access to compassionate, high-quality healthcare.

Our new Director of Development, Bonnie Battalia, opened the afternoon by sharing her personal journey from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Chester County. She spoke openly about what drew her to LCH in the first place: our commitment to looking at the whole person.

“What I admired about LCH was that the whole-person healthcare approach recognizes that a person cannot achieve true wellness if they lack access to healthy food and other important social determinants,” Bonnie shared. “Tonight’s theme, Sip, Savor, and Support, is a formula for how we change lives together. It is the simple pleasures of connection, conversation, celebration, and community.”

She reminded us that Sip represents how healthcare happens, not in a frantic rush, but through steady, day-by-day efforts. Savor asks us to cherish life’s moments when we have our health, our families, and our dignity. And Support is what allows LCH to look past the symptoms and ask the most important question of all: What does this person truly need to be healthy?

LCH Board Chair Lisa Passante gave guests an insider look at why our leadership is so deeply tied to the community. Incredibly, about half of LCH’s current and past board members have been LCH patients themselves, ensuring that the most important voice of all guides our decisions. Lisa shared a personal story about how this mission hits close to home for her.

“Part of the why is the story of my paternal grandparents, who were immigrants from Italy,” Lisa said. “Knowing how difficult their early journey was, with very few resources, makes me realize how critical it is for so many of our neighbors to have a place where they can receive healthcare when there may be no other realistic option… Our patients know—I hope they know—they are welcome here.”

She reminded everyone in the room that while our staff does the heavy lifting every day, the community’s collective job is to stand firmly behind a simple truth: healthcare should be accessible to everyone, not just a select few.

Closing out the remarks, LCH CEO Ronan W. Gannon looked ahead to the future. He spoke about how LCH has evolved from offering basic medical access to surrounding patients with completely coordinated, comprehensive care. Pointing to LCH’s recent national quality recognition awards, Ronan made it clear that expanding care never means cutting corners on excellence.

“Being a community health center should never mean accepting a different standard of healthcare,” Ronan emphasized. “Our patients deserve both access and high-quality care… Community support helps us move from today’s LCH to tomorrow’s LCH.”

With more than 8,700 local neighbors relying on LCH for essential services, the generosity shown at Sovana Bistro allows us to continue serving our community. Thank you again to our attendees, board, staff, and sponsors for making the afternoon such an incredible success.
